The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service-Conboy Lake Wildlife Refuge, in partnership with the Mt. Adams Institute and AmeriCorps, is now offering two full-time, paid internships for qualified applicants ages 21-29. Position Summary: Spend the summer and fall on Conboy Lake NWR. This position is perfect for a person who has a passion for wildlife. The position involves:

• Maintaining and rebuilding barbed-wire fences (75% of time); • Ensuring that the Refuge is free of cattle • Removing wildlife barrier fences • Assisting with biological projects, such as Sandhill crane banding, fish removal, and fish diet study (20% of time) General Responsibilities (to include, but not limited to): 1. Repair and rebuild barbed wire fences, including setting wood and metal posts, building fencebucks, and fixing breaks in wire 2. Protect habitat from damage by trespass grazing by removing cattle from Refuge lands 3. Tear out unnecessary fences to facilitate wildlife passage 4. Assist with banding of Sandhill crane colts 5. Help set and check fyke nets to capture bullhead catfish 6. Assist with diet study of bullhead catfish or bullfrog removal 7. Attend and complete all MAI/AmeriCorps training and service requirements including orientation, trainings, team meetings and national service days. 8. Complete and submit all necessary MAI/AmeriCorps paperwork and reports in a timely manner. 9. Wear an MAI uniform and/or appropriate identifiers and required safety gear while performing service or attending official events. 10. Member will not engage in prohibited AmeriCorps activities as outlined in the member handbook and agreement. Position Requirements: 1. Be self-sufficient and able to work long days in adverse weather conditions 2. Be physically fit, able to walk long distances carrying heavy loads 3. Ability to work long hours with a small crew of people 4. Flexibility to change tasks as conditions change 5. Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record and ability to provide documentation. 6. 21-29 years of age, at beginning of service term. 7. U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident. 8. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, or commit to earning one prior to receiving an education award. 9. Ability to commit to the full term of service for which they are applying. 10. Must successfully pass a fingerprint criminal history background check provided through MAI and/or Project Sponsor Agency. 11. Regular and reliable attendance. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Current Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification 2. Experience with fence maintenance or construction 3. Current ATV/UTV rider safety certification 4. Experience operating heavy equipment, including backhoes and skid-steers Member Benefits Include:

1. A total taxable living allowance (before taxes) of $250/week living allowance ($4,250 for 17 week position). 2. Upon successful completion of a term of service, eligible members/leaders receive an education award of $2,150. The education award can be used to repay qualified student loans, for further education in an accredited institution of higher learning, vocational or trade schools. The education award is taxed in the year that it is used. 3. Loan forbearance (after successful completion of a term of service, AmeriCorps will pay the accrued interest on qualified loans, which is taxable). 4. Free housing is provided for this position. 5.
