Caregiver - Direct Support Staff (in Santa Monica/Culver City usa)

United Cerebral Palsy


Four individuals with developmental disabilities living in Santa Monica or Culver City are in need personal attendants to provide personal assistance in their homes and community to enable them to live a full and dignified life. Previous work-related skills, knowledge or experience preferred. Must like to be active, enjoy walking, be a good listener, respectful, and patient. Must be dependable and reliable, and have a reliable source of transportation. Must have the ability to meet the physical demands of the job including assisting with transfers and pushing wheelchairs. Duties include the day-to-day support that people need to participate fully in life at home and in the community. Support may be provided in areas such as grooming and hygiene tasks, mobility, community outings, feeding, meal preparation, housekeeping, grocery shopping, laundry, etc. (Applicants already registered with IHSS preferred)

First Position - Santa Monica
Hours are (combination of IHSS and agency hours):
Monday 5pm - 11pm (8.5 hours)
Saturday 10am-6:30pm (7.5 hours)
Sunday 10am-12pm (2 hours)

Second Position- Santa Monica
Hours are (combination of IHSS and agency hours):
Monday through Friday 7am - 9am (2 hours)
Saturday and Sunday 1pm - 7:30pm (6.5 hours)

Third Position- Santa Monica
Hours are (combination of IHSS and agency hours):
Monday through Friday 4pm - 9pm (5 hours)

Fourth Position - Culver City
Monday - Saturday 5:30pm - 9:30pm (IHSS only)

Responsibilities for Agency Staff:
1.) Teach, assist and support individual at home and in the community to learn, practice and master skills enhancing personal care and including, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and eating.
2.) Assist individual with household shopping and maintenance as necessary, providing ongoing opportunity for individual to assume increasing control, responsibility.
3.) Support individual’s existing relationships and increase his networks of friends and acquaintances, including exploration and expressing of interests for community membership.
4.) Ensure the health and well-being of individual by accompanying on appointments as needed, administering medications (or supporting self-medication) following all instructions given by Primary Care Physician and Community Living Specialist.
5.) Maintain all required certifications such as medication administration, First Aid & CPR.
6.) Participate in on-going in-service training.

Qualifications for Agency Staff:
Proficiency in English (reading, writing and communication skills)
An interest and concern for people.
Ability to maintain adequate attendance
Commitment to assisting people with developmental disabilities to participate fully in the life of their community.
Varied interests and personal connections in the local community.
Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer or school history).
Ability to work as part of a team. Positive, constructive.
Ability to pass drug screening clearance and fingerprint clearance.
