Summer Teaching Fellows (Harlem, United States)

Hello, Become a successful and effective teacher by joining the Success Academy Teaching Fellowship program this summer.

Are you interested in becoming a teacher and want to receive more hands on experience before jumping in head first? By joining the Success Academy Teaching Fellowship program in June 2011 you will learn a bit about what it takes to be an amazing teacher and ‘live the life of a teacher’ for 10- weeks. If you love it, and we think you’re a great fit for our full-time team, you can join the Success Academy team for the 2011-2012 school year.

Success Charter Network is looking for diverse and talented individuals who love children, are passionate about education reform, believe in educational choice and who want to be a part of running and building an exemplary school system.

Why become a fellow?
As a Success Academy Teaching Fellow, you will have the exciting opportunity to work directly with our master teachers and instructional leaders and learn how to deliver rigorous instruction and manage a classroom of 27-30 scholars. Our fellows will teach a varying array of classes from math, reading, writing, karate, dance and art. Your 10-week apprenticeship includes on the job evaluation, training for each component of our curriculum, and learning how to implement the most effective behavior and classroom management systems. You will also learn what it takes to become a great teacher who constantly evolves to be the best teacher possible.

Are you our next fellow?
Ideal fellows are either recent college graduates or career changers who want to make a 10-week commitment this summer. The fellowship starts on June 6th and concludes on Aug. 9th. If you love the program and we believe you have what it takes to be a great teacher, you’ll be asked to join a Success Academy for the 2011-2012 academic year as an associate teacher. In this position, you’ll continue your training by working side by side with the best teachers in the industry, you’ll attend weekly professional development sessions, and you’ll live the life of an extraordinary teacher working with our scholars over the course of an academic year.

- No formal teaching experience is required.
- An undergraduate degree is required.
- Evidence of a love of children and most specifically children’s learning
- Internship, community involvement or volunteer experience is a plus.
- A quick learner, a person not afraid to take on hard challenges, strong communication skills and commitment to excellence.
- Has demonstrated leadership potential and has a track record for excellence

$6,750 stipend for an intensive 10-week training program
