AmeriCorps position in Financial Literacy (Buffalo)

Position Summary: Opportunity Corps (OC) is an AmeriCorps program created to provide financial literacy training to Buffalo's economically-disadvantaged adult citizens. OC members will create increased knowledge and changed behaviors related to finances in service recipients, transforming our community and creating a legacy of self-sufficiency among Buffalo citizens.

Position Title: Opportunity Corps member

Work Schedule: Full-time 40 hour work week, Monday - Friday

Essential Functions:

• Direct service and tracking of economically-disadvantaged individuals that receive financial literacy services and their progress

• Volunteer recruitment and management

• Specific roles and responsibilities will be determined once member is placed at service site

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Strong interpersonal skills

• Confidentiality

• Organizational skills

• Problem solving

• Computer proficient

• Compassion for a variety of clients

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

• Must be a U.S. Citizen, national or lawful permanent resident alien

• At least 20 years of age

• Able to provide the following documentation: birth certification, driver's license or state photo ID, social security card and high school diploma or college degree

• Must undergo a national criminal history check *REQUIRED*


• 4 year degree preferred

• Relevant human service experience


• Yearly stipend of $12,100, paid bi-weekly to OC member

• Health insurance and child care

• Professional trainings, orientation and continuous member support

• Loan forbearance

• Education award of $5,550 to be used by recipient to pay qualified student loans and/or educational expenses incurred at a higher education institution of the member's choice.
