Internship in Argentina

Argentina has many resources, but no silver. The Spanish explorers who discovered it did not know this when they named the country (“argentum” is the Latin word for silver). This valuable ore is found in abundance to the north in Bolivia and Peru, but despite this Argentina has kept its name. Argentina is a huge country. It is the eighth largest in the world and the second largest, after Brazil, in South America. It comprises 22 provinces and the territory of Tierra del Fuego, and includes some south Atlantic islands and a 49-degree wedge of the Antarctic, ending at the South Pole. Excluding the disputed areas, Argentina covers 2.8 million square kilometres. The islands and the area of the Antarctic together spread over 1.2 million square kilometres. The country is 3500 km long and up to 1400 km wide.

DiversityAs you can imagine, a country of such enormous size has a very diverse topography and different climates. Although most of Argentina lies within the climate zone of the Southern Hemisphere, the climatic conditions range from tropical in the north to sub-arctic in the south. The climate of the country is moderated by the influence of the two oceans, one on each side. This influence is enforced the farther south you go, where South America becomes smaller and smaller and the two oceans finally meet. As a high cloud barrier against the west, the Andes also play an important role. Thanks to the diversity of its landscape, Argentina has a rich variety of animals and plants.

Except for the small tropical region in the northeast and in the subtropical Gran Chaco in the north, the prevailing climate conditions in Argentina are temperate. In the area around Buenos Aires the average annual temperature is 16.1°C. The mean temperature for January and July is between 23.3 and 10 °C. In the higher regions of the Andes, Patagonia, and Terra del Fuego, colder temperatures prevail. In the western section of Patagonia, the average winter temperature is 0 °C. In most of the coastal areas the influence of the ocean creates a more moderate climate.

There are huge regional differences in the rainfall in Argentina. More than 1500 millimetres of rain fall annually in the extreme north; in the south and west the conditions are semi-arid. In the area around Buenos Aires, the average annual rainfall is 950 millimetres, and near San Miguel de Tucumán about 970 millimetres.

Culinary Specialities
" Alfajores" (a cake sandwich with dulce de leche) are available all over Argentina, and go perfect with cafe con leche. The Argentines love dulce de leche, which is a cream caramel, and put it on almost anything sweet. Medialunas (mini-croissants) and dulce de leche are a staple breakfast.

One thing you should definitely try is mate-tea, the very bitter and caffeinated but addictive beverage.

A selection of Argentinean and other South- and Central-American products (including alfajores, dulche de leche and mate-tea) can be bought online from our sister-company at

If you would like to go to Argentina to experience the culture whilst improving your Spanish through an internship, we can help.
With our extensive network of companies and contacts we are in the perfect position to offer you all the support you need in your application for an internship in Argentina.

Internship jobs

Use the iHipo internship and job search function to search for internship jobs around the world.
The uncertain economy, which started in late 2008 and was accompanied by bank failures and corporate bailouts, have led to higher unemployment and a tightened job market for fresh graduates. With the scarcity of jobs, many graduates have started to look at internships in a way to maintain relationships with an employer, to possibly earn some money and to remain attractive on the job market.

Internship jobs is the term known for an employment status somewhere between an intern and an employee. In this difficult economic era, the hiring of interns is easier for recruiters given the lower pay and benefits which interns receive, and their short-term employment makes them a flexible asset on the staff list.

The practice of internship jobs is also increasingly popular amongst mid-career professionals, who willingly accept lower pay and a flexible engagement in order to remain focused on their career path. Furthermore, taking on an internship job demonstrates a certain determination and motivation of the candidate – a asset which is definitely of value to employers once the hiring freeze is over and they are seeking fresh candidates again.

iHipo has the largest database of international internships, please view our internships section for an overview of internship jobs. You can also visit our internship programs section to see which internship programs are available at the leading employers worldwide.

College internships

To search for college or student internships, visit the iHipo internships section.
Doing an internship whilst in university/college can greatly increase your chances of finding a job after graduating. They are often regarded as work experience, and can open doors to employment at the company where you have interned.

College or student internships are either work experience internships or research internships. Work experience internships are often in the second or third year of the university period. The internship can last for 2-7 months, and enables to put to practice what he/she has learned during classes.
Research internships are also known as dissertation internships, and are usually done by students in the final year of college. The intern would do a particular research for the company, which at the same time qualifies as the dissertation or thesis for a Bachelor or Master degree. The conducted research can be a problem which the company faces or another project which needs to be investigated (for example a market research), or can be initiated by the intern himself.

Summer internships (Dubai)

To search for summer internships, you can visit the iHipo internships section or the internship program section.

Summer internships usually last for 8-10 weeks and conveniently take place in between university semesters. This gives summer interns the opportunity to gain work experience without causing a delay in their study, and to possibly gain school credits for it as well.

Given the short period of time of summer internships (generally 2 months), the intern will usually be given short-term projects to complete. The intern will usually have individual ownership of his/her project, will work on a real-time (business) need or application, and can have significant exposure to senior management. Many multinationals have international summer internships, these are particularly popular in strategy consulting and investment banking firms. For an overview of summer internship programs, please visit the internship programs section or the company internships programs page.

Many organizations and companies organize summer internship programs. Most have early deadlines, and can already start recruiting for interns in November/December, it is therefore important to start researching and applying fairly early (winter time).

For applying to summer internships, the same general rules apply as when searching for other internships: start early, use several sources for searching (internet, job sites, university career centers, your own network etc), and of course to be persistent and patient. You can view our article on how to find an internship for more information.

  • Year Founded

  • Internships and Volunteer Projects Abroad

    Where it all started

In the early 1990s, some students wanted a break from study - a "gap year," although the term wasn't yet in common use. They approached their geography professor about traveling and working in Eastern Europe. The professor, Dr. Peter Slowe, had difficulty finding any opportunities for this kind of travel combined with work experience, so he set about arranging for his students to go and teach English in Romania where he knew some fellow academics. This was how Projects Abroad began in 1992.

    Projects Abroad today

Until 1997, Projects Abroad was a small organization with just two part time staff sending university students to teach English in Eastern Europe. But with more and more people taking time out on academic and work-related breaks, and with many developing countries in need of self-funded volunteers, our organized volunteer programs started to mushroom around the world. Our volunteers can still teach English in Eastern Europe, but can also do many other types of work in many other places.
We now have two North American offices located in New York City and Toronto. With more than 500 trained staff in our destinations, and offering over 100 generic projects, we are the world's leading international volunteer organization.

Projects Abroad volunteers are aged from 16 to 75! University students and recent graduates still make up the majority of our volunteers, but increasing numbers join us for gap years or summer breaks before starting university or while still in high school. Furthermore, our fastest growing demographics are career breakers and retirees choosing to take some time out volunteering on our projects.

Projects Abroad in the Global Economy

We help to create local employment wherever we send volunteers. We employ many people directly and provide plenty of work indirectly through the services we provide for volunteers. We have also devolved various "Head Office" functions, such as management accountancy, which is done in Mongolia and design work in Mexico.

Because we work with local colleagues at all levels, our extensive network of local knowledge enables us to channel the skills of our volunteers to places they are really needed.

Cultural exchange and freedom of choice
Volunteers learn from their chosen projects and the people they meet -- and vice versa. Mutual learning and respect is what cultural exchange is all about.

Now we are taking this theme of "respect" further than ever. We are truly global in our outlook. We welcome approaches from potential partners – schools, orphanages, hospitals and so on – from across the developing world; wherever they are or whatever they do, we will try to meet their needs. And we welcome ideas from potential volunteers too; if a volunteer has an idea for a new program or destination, we will do everything we can to enable them to work in their own way. We will cherish their ideas and meet their requirements. We believe that flexibility on our part is a necessary consequence of our respect for our partners and our respect for volunteers.

    Volunteer Projects and Internships Abroad

Projects Abroad is the leading volunteer abroad organization. We offer a diverse range of international service projects, plus the opportunity to become part of one of our volunteer communities abroad. Our continuous presence overseas and unparalleled in-country support from our international staff ensure that your experience will be far more worthwhile and genuine than those of the average tourist.

Cert IV in Financial Services: You will develop skills in financial administration, customer service, communication skills and accounting procedures. These skills can lead to employment opportunities in a variety of finance companies, accounting firms and other commercial companies.

Cert IV in Business Administration: You will learn administrative skills such as mail and record handling, phone and reception, computer skills, customer service, book keeping and team work. These skills can lead to employment opportunities in office work in a wide range of industries such as Legal, Finance & Insurance, Technology, Marketing and more.

    What is the expected workload?
As a trainee you will work full time on-site at a host company including studies of three hours per week.

Like all vocational employment training, successful completion depends on demonstrating your competency at the work place. You will be required to complete a number of "units of competency" but you won't need to attend lectures or read a lot of theory that doesn't relate to your work and career.

You select the range of competencies (as per qualification requirements) you wish to attain and then learn and demonstrate these competencies in the workplace. The heart of the program is competency-based assessment. The emphasis is on giving you opportunities to demonstrate your competence. As a vocational "competency based" qualification, the focus is on your ability to apply your workplace knowledge to the issues raised in the study material, on the application of your practical work experience and problem solving.
    How much does it cost?

As long as the Government funding is available for the course you have selected, as a trainee you pay nothing. You may have to pay for the course tuition fee if the course is not funded by the Government which we will let you know when you apply.
